Christopher Mark Rose is an electrical engineer for NASA spacecraft, and a writer of speculative fictions. His avionics hardware has flown in DART, Parker Solar Probe, the Van Allen Probes, and (soon) the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe. His fiction has appeared in Asimov’s, F&SF, Interzone, and the anthology PHILOSOPHY THROUGH SCIENCE FICTION STORIES (Bloomberg, 2021.)
He won the Baltimore Science Fiction Society's Amateur Writing Contest in 2015, and recent work was a finalist for the Kurt Vonnegut Fiction Prize. Another story was runner-up for the ScreenCraft Cinematic Short Story Contest in 2023.
He is founder and impresario of the Charm City Spec reading series in Baltimore. He attended the Viable Paradise Writer's workshop in 2019.
His interest in science fiction is not to portray people using technologies to solve their problems, but rather to provide narrative vehicles for analogy and transformation. He hopes his stories are affecting, humane, and engaged with large questions.
