The Readercon Convention Committee is closely following developments around the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, we are planning to hold Readercon 31 as scheduled from July 9th to 12th, 2020, at the Marriott Boston Quincy.
We are monitoring announcements by all major health agencies, the City of Quincy, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as to the advisability of holding a gathering as large as Readercon. As of March 13th, gatherings of over 250 people are banned in Massachusetts. It is too early to understand what the state of the pandemic will be in July.
If we determine that it is not advisable to hold the conference in early July, we will postpone Readercon 31 to our contracted date of July 8th to 11th, 2021, at the Marriott Boston Quincy. At that time, we will give all members and program participants the option to keep their memberships or get a full refund of their purchase. Look to our website, our Twitter account, or our Facebook page for updates.
We are dedicated to the safety of all staff, volunteers, and convention attendees. This is our first priority. If Readercon 31 remains able to proceed, we will be working with the hotel to ensure that appropriate precautions are taken. We understand that even if we choose to hold the convention, not everyone will be able to travel or feel safe attending a large gathering. For this reason, we are allowing members to request a full refund of their Readercon 31 membership purchase. Volunteers may request to roll their complimentary membership to Readercon 32.
We appreciate your understanding and patience while we work through these unprecedented circumstances.
