William Shunn was born in Los Angeles and raised in Utah. The most recent stop on his eastward migration had him putting down stakes in New York City in 1995. He has worked as an ice cream vendor, a cabinet maker, a form designer, a missionary, a telephone surveyor, a substitute night school English teacher, a documentation specialist, a gaming writer, and a computer programmer. He is a 1985 Clarion graduate. His short fiction has appeared in Salon, Storyteller, Asimov's, Fantasy & Science Fiction, Science Fiction Age, Realms of Fantasy, Electric Velocipede, and various anthologies. He has been nominated for the Nebula Award. His podcast, William Shunn's ShunnCast: Science Fiction and More, is heard biweekly on iPods around the globe. He is at work on a novel, Inclination, and a memoir, The Accidental Terrorist. He lives in Queens with one wife, Laura Chavoen, and one soft-coated wheaten terrier, Ella. He is not officially welcome in Canada.
